What to know when combining a toolbox with a tonneau cover

There are tons of different kinds of toolboxes on the market. Regardless of which one you choose to fit on your truck, you should know that if you intend to add a tonneau cover at a later date, you should be aware of certain issues which will undoubtedly leave you wishing you'd run into this blog before you pulled the trigger.

First off, a traditional toolbox that spans the back of your truck will leave gaps between the box and the cab wall of your truck, so adding any kind of tonneau cover later will not be water tight. Water will most certainly get in behind your toolbox, so buyer beware.

My suggestion is to look at the new bak box by Bak Industries as a better solution. Let me know if you agree, disagree or simply have an opinion.

  1. BakBox is a great addition to the BakFlip tonneau cover! However, our customers have stated “the box is not big enough” and I would have to agree. Customers have asked if they could either get a bigger box or have additional box(s) installed. It would be great if you could forego the fold flat BakBox and have an optional non-folding BakBox that would support greater storage capacity. I am not sure if the panels structure would support this idea but I think this would be a great addition to Bak family and its customers.

  2. Thanks for that great bit of feedback! We will most definitely be entertaining making such a box. What size do you think would be optimum?
