The BakFlip HD is a rock solid, upgraded version of our most popular BakFlip G2 tonneau cover. The BakFlip HD was designed to outlast your truck. It is made from aircraft grade aluminum that is light, but seriously strong and coupled with an inner core that is denser than the BakFlip G2 as well. The HD has a destinguishable and undeniable sound and feel when it opens and closes that just screams HD! For any folks out there that have ever opened or closed the door of a Porsche 911, you’ll know that it has a certain sound to it that is undeniably Porsche. The same rings true for the BakFlip HD. Above and beyond the solid feel and ease of use that the BakFlip HD offers, BAK Industries has selected top of the line components to adorn the HD. The cable housings underneath the cover are encased in injection molded plastic.
The prop rods that support the HD in the open position are powder coated and rubber tipped.
The thickness of the panels are 5/8 (inches) in thickness and the baked on finish we have selected to protect the HD is unrivaled in the industry.

Integrated D-rings are featured both on top and beneath the BakFlip HD to ensure intermittent driving capability.

Extra clamps are equipped to ensure that the BakFlip HD rails are able to sustain additional weight. The BakFlip HD can handle over 400 LBS of evenly distributed weight stacked on top of it.

The BakFlip HD is backed by a top to bottom, front to back 2 year factory warranty. The warranty covers all components, materials and operation on the cover. You can conveniently register your warranty on BAK Industries website as well.

I have a Bakflip tonneau on my 09 F-150 shortbed and am very pleased. I think it is the HD, but it has been a while since I purchased it and I am not sure I remember which model. I have one question. I have lived through the first winter with the Bakflip and frequently in the morning I would find the rear panel frozen to my tailgate. I was always able to pry it up eventually, but the prying approach was sort of a pain in the butt. I wondered if you or your customers have found a good preventative approach to this problem. I thought about silicone spray–has this worked for others? I would appreciate any help you can provide for next winter. Thanks.
I think a silicone spray is a great idea. We use silicone spray to lubricate our rails inside the RollBak tonneau cover during winter months and this tends to work extremely well.
I guess we’ll have to wait for an entire year to find out if the silicone spray works, but for what it’s worth, I think it should work well. Keep in touch and let me know if there’s anything else I can help with. That was a great question and one we should all benefit from once we find out if it indeed works or not.
One last thing I could do is simulate a freezing environment at our factory an do some testing. While this will often give us a solid indicator as to whether or not silicone will prevent the problem, real life has a certain way of giving it to us like it really is. There’s nothing quite like putting a cover through a real season to determine how well it fares. For my own satisfaction I will likely do the test next week. I’ll let you know what I find.
Thank you Julian for all your help. I received and installed my new bakflip this past weekend and it is all that you said with the improvements. for one thing, the rails with the installation points cut all the way to the end are great as well as the new mounting hardware screws. I cannot express enough how refreshing and reassuring it is to meet a president of a company that actually stands behinds their product 100% and then some. It shows me that bakflip is not all about the buck but the quality of their products and customer service. Again, the Bakflip is by far the best and most veratile truck bed cover out there. the quality of the aluminum panels are outstanding compared to the old polymer. Also I have a 2008 tacoma and it is hard to find a cover for the tacoma’ s rail system but bakflip does the job. I highly recommend this cover for those who want security for the bed but would also like to use the entire bed when needed at a moments notice. Julian, again i thank you and also a thank you to Lauren for all your help. I will definitely be recommending this cover to my fellow truck driving friends…I guarantee you that.
Hi Tyler,
That was a really cool comment! I am so happy that you’re enjoying your new BakFlip cover. Of all the folding tonneau covers out there, I do believe that it is the best as well. I am just so thrilled that you recognize how hard we work towards customer satisfaction. At the end of the day, it’s our brand that’s at the heart of it all and your faith in our products just serves to solidify that we’re doing things correctly! This comment just made my day!
Enjoy your BakFlip and don’t hesitate to reach out to me if there’s anything at all that you need. It would be my absolute pleasure to assist wherever possible!
All the best,
Julian
I purchased a backflip last year for my 09′ Nissan Frontier. It worked well, but I noted when the rainy season hit it began to leak. After looking closely at it I noticed that the rubber seal didn’t go all the away across the cover (at 2 of the folds) which led to water leakage. I notified Lauren via e-mail and stated the problem, sent out a couple of pictures and stated that they would send me out an upgraded replacement. I recieved the cover yesterday which popped right into my existing rails. I also noticed it had a upgraded rubber seal on the folds (more water-tight) which went through a great test last night as we has a substancial amount of rain and no more leakage! Thank you Lauren and Bak industries for compensating me under your great warranty program/service and by sending me a replacement at no charge (to include shipping) which arrived within two weeks of my request. Great job! You’re products have improved tremendously over the years since I purchased my first cover over 4 years ago for a different vehicle! Keep up the great work and I’ll continue to spread the word!
That’s fantastic Jon. Thanks for letting us know. As always, you’re most welcome!
Julian,
I am about to order a Bakflip HD for my new F-150 STX, after doing a lot of research on the net (haha, including the threads on the other forums that you took part in). Realistically, what should my expectations be regarding leaks and keeping the bed dry? Thanks.

HI Julian,
I recieved my G2HD today and had it installed on my ford ranger in a Half hour. I stood there admiring it when I noticed a small dent in one of the panels. Other than that it looks great, actually, it`s flippin awesome. I am glad I decided on investing in your product. It was so easy to install and is custom fit. Thank you.

Julian I have a brand new F150 Crew with 5.5 Bed. 2010. I had a bakflip installed today with a bedrug. The dealer mentioned some problems with the seals, but wanted me to have it out in the sun to see if it melted into place. I wanted a roll bak but they convinced me that the Bakflip was a better way to go. Im not happy at all and will be going back to get a different put on my truck. I did a lot of research and really thought I wanted the Rollbak. Im pretty picky about all my stuff and want my stuff to be perfect. I have a great feeling about your products, but am very dissappointed right now. I think a big part of the problem is the fact the dealer cant get the roll bak. I’d like to talk to someone about this. My dealer is awesome and wants to take care of me, Im hearing stories about cold weather and freezing with the rollbak. Also springs problems. Ive watched all the videos and research. Looking for help here. Currently the Flipbak is on my truck. Just had it done today. Thank you
Hi Tony,
The BakFlip seals can indeed be a little wonky for the first day or so after installation. That’s because they take a day or so to revert back to their original straight selves, having been folded up in a box for a lengthy period. The EPDM seals have a memory and will always revert back to their original shape. Heat helps expedite this process, so leaving the truck parked in the sun for an hour or so usually does the trick.
With this said, I, or any of my staff would be happy to help you out and chat about the attributes, strengths and shortcomings of any of our tonneau covers. It’s the least we can do to help steer you in the direction of your choice. There are always more than a few factors to consider in getting the irght tonneau for you and your lifestyle. We are experts at tonneau related issues and would welcome your call. We’re there all week from Monday through Friday. I’m usually available after 9am and before 2:30 (pacific).
All the best,
Julian
Hello again Julian,
Since having the new version of the G2 (aluminum version) for quite a while now, i got to say i am liking it very much. The only issue i’ve come across is water dripping in from the side of the rails more so than with the old polymer one. Not that it’s that major living in california but when i wash my car, i hate to get the water drippings puddling up as i keep my golf clubs and tow gear in the bed. I tried reinstalling the rails thinking that maybe i’ve bunched up the weather stripping the first time. but so far the same thing. I have noticed that the new rails have the rubber strip edge compared to my old polymer g2 rails that had weather stripping under the rail where it laid on the bed side. So I was wondering if you could recommend any solution? i was thinking of getting that weather stripping 3m makes for home windows to duplicate how my old rails were. Also another minor thing, i’m not sure others have dealt with, but living in a hot state, opening the cover can get hot. any recommendations on some kind of rubber or heat resistant tape i can put on under the cover to use as grip when opening the cover so i don’t burn my hands? thanks .Again, aside from the minor issues, (as there is no such thing as a perfect tonneau cover) this is as close as it gets and love the cover.
Hi Tyler,
Send me a few images of the rails you currently have to julian@bakliner.com. The new seals on the BakFlip are a vast improvement over the older ones and it sounds like something fishy is up with the set you may have. If need be we’ll get them replaced for you.
We also have tons of weather seals and profiles that can assist you to insulate any trouble areas. Just call us at (818) 365-9000 and we’ll ship them to you free of charge.
We’re here to help buddy. I’m pretty confident we can resolve any issue you may have.
All the best,
Julian
Have just installed a Bakflip Hd on my 2010 Sierra pickup. The installation went well burt upon closing my cover, the last panel does not fit flush like the other panels. Any suggestions to resolve this small problem?
It sounds like your tailgate cap may be causing your tonneau to be sitting high. This can happen if you don’t have side bed caps on your truck rails. You do have options if this is the case. 1 – you can install redcaps like ProCaps. Or 2 – you can replace that big wing style tailgate with a flush fitting tailgate cap. Call us at (818) 365-9000 if you need assistance.
Julian,
Had a look and it would seem that I have to reinstall the cover. The rails, if I understand the installation instructions, should be all the way forward. This is causing the last panel to sit on the tailgate cap. I’ll try this and let you know if I have any problems.
By the way, we just got back from vacation. The weather was horrible , but the contents of the bed of the truck stayed dry. Easy to get in, easy to close, and the contents stayed secure. Love the look on my pickup. I have had several other covers and canopies for a pickup. My Bakflip HD is by far the best most versatile tonneau that I have owned.
Finally, it is refreshing to see a company that takes customer service and satisfaction as seriously as you do. Will be sure to share my experience with anyone who asks.
Regards,
David
I just got done installing the HD on my 2007 Toyota Tundra and it looks awesome! I did a lot of research on different covers and found yours to be the best and strongest looking and best value. I feel even more confident now that I see other comments and the way you take care of your customers.
I also have the rail system, and the added brackets worked great, although it took me a while to install everything. The only problem I can possibly see is my last panel sticking up a slight bit where it clicks into place at the tailgate, but it I think if I re-look at it in the morning I can probably figure out the problem, although your suggestion about the tailgate cap might fix the problem. I think the factory Toyota one might just be a bit thick. Thanks for making quality products!
Dustin
Hi Dustin,
Feel free to fire off a few images to me at julian@bakliner.com and I’d be happy to lend my advice as to how to assist with getting your cover installed perfectly. A picture often tells a better story.
Thanks for your kind words. We’re here to help at any time.
Cheers,
Julain
Julain,
David at Quality Truck Acc. Longview, TX. I have several customers ask the question of whether or not you can ride with BakflipHD partially open or if it requires being open all the way and this always puzzles me. If you can help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, David
I have a Pro Rack (Made in America!) and was wondering how long until the Tonneau cover that works with it will be available?
I ordered my first Bak Flip HD and am hoping that it will serve me as good or better than the cover from my last truck, 2005 Avalanche. I just love the idea and really miss a cover on the bed of my new Silverado EXT. Good job on the management so far Julian!
Just ordered a Bak Flip HD for my F-150 SuperCrew, and planning to have a Line-X spray in bedliner installed prior to installing the HD. From the installation videos, it looks like there is a seal that goes along the front rail just behind the cab. Would you recommend that Line-X not spray on top of that front rail for best fit and seal, or should the weatherstrip go on top of the bedliner? The side rails have plastic covers so no decision to make there.
Julian,
Just wondered why you had not replied to David C. note to you? I am doing research and had the same question.
Dave and Bill,
It really makes no difference whether you have a spray on bedliner or not. Our experience has shown that the cab rail is well enough covered and insulated by the BakFlip regardless of whether there’s a liner sprayed over it or not.
hi julian, just had my bakflip hd installed on my 2010 f150,after doing a bit of research on covers I found yours to be what suited my requirements the best. I have to say I am very impressed with your product, it feels very solid and tight the seals all seem to be well fitted to my truck( I had canopywest install it for me),I love its ability to open all the way up so I have access to the entire box. The only question I would have is regarding the warranty, is it through my dealer? . One last thing , your product looks absolutely fantastic on my truck, thanks for such a great product..
Hi Kevan. Thanks for those kind words.
If you ever have a problem with any BAK cover, just contact us directly. As a side note, make sure to register your warranty on your cover at http://www.bakliner.com
Hi Guys, I have a question re: the Bakflip F1.
I love the design where you can leave the first, second or third panel open while hauling whatever. However, I’ve experienced the panel flipping up in the wind.
I’ve tried using both bungee’s as well as ratchet straps to go from the anchor points on the F1 to the anchor points in my Chevy Dually by the tailgate. I can’t seem to keep the panel from flipping up in the wind.
Any pointers?
Your best bet would be to anchor from D-rings under cover to D-rings on top of cover. Take a look at this link: http://www.bakflip.com/bak-chat/tag/d-rings
Recently purchased a HD for a 2011 Dodge Ram short bed. Did not receive shims so I used the black adhesive bumbers taped to the bottom of the cover. Will this be ok? Or can you ship me the shims and new bumpers?
Daryl,
Please use the black bumpers as bumpers and NOT SHIMS! Call BAK at (818) 365-9000 or email oscar@bakliner.com and ask him for shims. Either way, they’ll ship them to you right away.
Hi Julian I just got my new truck yesterday with the Bakflip and man it looks sweet! I have a bed extender and it blocks the drainage holes in the rear of the box. I can probably re-route the drainage tubes to a different hole but I would need a 90 degree elbow. Do you guys stock those and if you do, do you ship to Canada?
Thanks!
Hi Julian,
I have an F-250 that I am looking at putting a folding tonneau on. I was looking at the Bak Flip HD and the Ford OEM by Rev Ind.
I understand that REV is indeed Bak Flip. What are the differences between the Bak Flip HD and the Rev Ind. tonneau made for Ford (other than price – $1,069 and longer warranty – 3 years – for the Rev. version)?
I would like to install one of these soon before the snow flies, so any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom
Hi Tom,
The REV cover will now be made from Fiberglass reinforced polymer (from January 2012 onwards) on top with an aluminum substrate underneath, much like our F1 cover. In addition, all critical install components will be concealed. The hinges have been updated to be able to handle more torrential rain conditions and a newly designed rail seal ensures better overall water resistance as well. Outside of these features, there’s little overall else that’s different, outside of the longer warranty. BakFlip products are all made to high standards and are all made in our factory in the USA where we have full control over all critical elements. As such, I can honestly say that regardless of the direction you choose to go in, you’re sure to be a very happy camper with any of our products.
Am I to understand that if I have a newer truck (As I Do) a 2011 silverado that the cover will not fit right because of the swept up design of the tailgate cover? I like the cover and can’t image you making a product that requires replacement! I was on my way out to buy the bakflip HD but will not do so until I hear back.
Keith,
You do not need to make any changes or modifications at all. You don’t need a replacement tailgate cap either. The BakFlip will work perfectly with the truck just the way it is. You don’t need to worry.
Best,
Julian
Just received and installed my new Bakflip HD for a 2011 Toyota Tundra. Is it supposed to come with an emergency glow handle? Reading some things on this website show it, but does this model come with it? Does the rubber by the hinges on the outside always look higher than the rest of the rubber going down the sides? Or does it need adjusting? Closes fine, just wondering. Will the sun help them flatten out also?
HI Kevin,
To my knowledge the BakFlip HD should have the glow in the dark handle, albeit not that important.
Also, the rubber seals will flatten beautifully with heat.
Hey Julian,
I really like the things I am hearing about the Bakflip Covers and I would like to purchase the HD model for my 2006 Toyota Tundra but I have a question before I go ahead and purchase one. My truck bed has a spay on bed liner and it has been sprayed up over the bulkhead or front bed rail. With that, I was wondering what I can do to get a good seal without having to grind off the bed liner.
One more thing Julian,
I hate to ask because I think you provide a phenomenal product for the price you are asking but I was wondering if there is any kind of a military discount or if you know somewhere that would have one. Thank you in advance.
Zane
Julian,
I received a Bakflip HD for my 2007 Toyota Tundra for Christmas and installed it that afternoon with no problem. However, while driving home through the mountains in a rain/snow storm, water had leaked into the bed. It looks like the weather stripping on the hinge between the first and second panel gets blown up and water leaks in at the point on both sides. I pulled over to check that the panels were properly locked in the track and nothing was preventing them from closing tightly, but water still got in. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Craig
Julian,
I have been researching covers for weeks and have narrowed it to the BakFlip HD or F1. Can you tell me what the advantage would be in terms of function and design in the F1 over the slightly less expensive HD? Also I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the 5’7 bed without rambox. I have a aftermarket installed under the rail pendaliner and OEM Rail caps. Will install of either the HD or F1 require any type of trimming or modification of the drop in bedliner?
Thanks, Aaron
Just put the HD on my Super Duty. Purchased from Truck Champ last week.
These things are amazing. They are easy to install (30 minutes) and look great.
My last top on my F150 was a SnugTop which I paid over $1000.00 for and it wasn’t nearly as versatile as my Bakflip. Wish I had found you guys sooner!
I must have bought one of the first bak flips (dont even know the model) maybe back in 07.
Only problem I have is that the aluminum cable housings have all just about detached from the underside of the panels. These were neither riveted nor screwed on. Have the new models been upgrated? Im going to have to buy a replacement soon.
