The BakFlip HD is a rock solid, upgraded version of our most popular BakFlip G2 tonneau cover. The BakFlip HD was designed to outlast your truck. It is made from aircraft grade aluminum that is light, but seriously strong and coupled with an inner core that is denser than the BakFlip G2 as well. The HD has a destinguishable and undeniable sound and feel when it opens and closes that just screams HD! For any folks out there that have ever opened or closed the door of a Porsche 911, you'll know that it has a certain sound to it that is undeniably Porsche. The same rings true for the BakFlip HD. Above and beyond the solid feel and ease of use that the BakFlip HD offers, BAK Industries has selected top of the line components to adorn the HD. The cable housings underneath the cover are encased in injection molded plastic.

The prop rods that support the HD in the open position are powder coated and rubber tipped.
The thickness of the panels are 5/8 (inches) in thickness and the baked on finish we have selected to protect the HD is unrivaled in the industry.

Integrated D-rings are featured both on top and beneath the BakFlip HD to ensure intermittent driving capability.

Extra clamps are equipped to ensure that the BakFlip HD rails are able to sustain additional weight. The BakFlip HD can handle over 400 LBS of evenly distributed weight stacked on top of it.

The BakFlip HD is backed by a top to bottom, front to back 2 year factory warranty. The warranty covers all components, materials and operation on the cover. You can conveniently register your warranty on BAK Industries website as well.

I have a Bakflip tonneau on my 09 F-150 shortbed and am very pleased. I think it is the HD, but it has been a while since I purchased it and I am not sure I remember which model. I have one question. I have lived through the first winter with the Bakflip and frequently in the morning I would find the rear panel frozen to my tailgate. I was always able to pry it up eventually, but the prying approach was sort of a pain in the butt. I wondered if you or your customers have found a good preventative approach to this problem. I thought about silicone spray–has this worked for others? I would appreciate any help you can provide for next winter. Thanks.

I think a silicone spray is a great idea. We use silicone spray to lubricate our rails inside the RollBak tonneau cover during winter months and this tends to work extremely well.
I guess we’ll have to wait for an entire year to find out if the silicone spray works, but for what it’s worth, I think it should work well. Keep in touch and let me know if there’s anything else I can help with. That was a great question and one we should all benefit from once we find out if it indeed works or not.
One last thing I could do is simulate a freezing environment at our factory an do some testing. While this will often give us a solid indicator as to whether or not silicone will prevent the problem, real life has a certain way of giving it to us like it really is. There’s nothing quite like putting a cover through a real season to determine how well it fares. For my own satisfaction I will likely do the test next week. I’ll let you know what I find.

Thank you Julian for all your help. I received and installed my new bakflip this past weekend and it is all that you said with the improvements. for one thing, the rails with the installation points cut all the way to the end are great as well as the new mounting hardware screws. I cannot express enough how refreshing and reassuring it is to meet a president of a company that actually stands behinds their product 100% and then some. It shows me that bakflip is not all about the buck but the quality of their products and customer service. Again, the Bakflip is by far the best and most veratile truck bed cover out there. the quality of the aluminum panels are outstanding compared to the old polymer. Also I have a 2008 tacoma and it is hard to find a cover for the tacoma’ s rail system but bakflip does the job. I highly recommend this cover for those who want security for the bed but would also like to use the entire bed when needed at a moments notice. Julian, again i thank you and also a thank you to Lauren for all your help. I will definitely be recommending this cover to my fellow truck driving friends…I guarantee you that.

Hi Tyler,
That was a really cool comment! I am so happy that you’re enjoying your new BakFlip cover. Of all the folding tonneau covers out there, I do believe that it is the best as well. I am just so thrilled that you recognize how hard we work towards customer satisfaction. At the end of the day, it’s our brand that’s at the heart of it all and your faith in our products just serves to solidify that we’re doing things correctly! This comment just made my day!
Enjoy your BakFlip and don’t hesitate to reach out to me if there’s anything at all that you need. It would be my absolute pleasure to assist wherever possible!
All the best,
Julian

I purchased a backflip last year for my 09′ Nissan Frontier. It worked well, but I noted when the rainy season hit it began to leak. After looking closely at it I noticed that the rubber seal didn’t go all the away across the cover (at 2 of the folds) which led to water leakage. I notified Lauren via e-mail and stated the problem, sent out a couple of pictures and stated that they would send me out an upgraded replacement. I recieved the cover yesterday which popped right into my existing rails. I also noticed it had a upgraded rubber seal on the folds (more water-tight) which went through a great test last night as we has a substancial amount of rain and no more leakage! Thank you Lauren and Bak industries for compensating me under your great warranty program/service and by sending me a replacement at no charge (to include shipping) which arrived within two weeks of my request. Great job! You’re products have improved tremendously over the years since I purchased my first cover over 4 years ago for a different vehicle! Keep up the great work and I’ll continue to spread the word!

Julian,
I am about to order a Bakflip HD for my new F-150 STX, after doing a lot of research on the net (haha, including the threads on the other forums that you took part in). Realistically, what should my expectations be regarding leaks and keeping the bed dry? Thanks.

HI Julian,
I recieved my G2HD today and had it installed on my ford ranger in a Half hour. I stood there admiring it when I noticed a small dent in one of the panels. Other than that it looks great, actually, it`s flippin awesome. I am glad I decided on investing in your product. It was so easy to install and is custom fit. Thank you.

Julian I have a brand new F150 Crew with 5.5 Bed. 2010. I had a bakflip installed today with a bedrug. The dealer mentioned some problems with the seals, but wanted me to have it out in the sun to see if it melted into place. I wanted a roll bak but they convinced me that the Bakflip was a better way to go. Im not happy at all and will be going back to get a different put on my truck. I did a lot of research and really thought I wanted the Rollbak. Im pretty picky about all my stuff and want my stuff to be perfect. I have a great feeling about your products, but am very dissappointed right now. I think a big part of the problem is the fact the dealer cant get the roll bak. I’d like to talk to someone about this. My dealer is awesome and wants to take care of me, Im hearing stories about cold weather and freezing with the rollbak. Also springs problems. Ive watched all the videos and research. Looking for help here. Currently the Flipbak is on my truck. Just had it done today. Thank you

Hi Tony,
The BakFlip seals can indeed be a little wonky for the first day or so after installation. That’s because they take a day or so to revert back to their original straight selves, having been folded up in a box for a lengthy period. The EPDM seals have a memory and will always revert back to their original shape. Heat helps expedite this process, so leaving the truck parked in the sun for an hour or so usually does the trick.
With this said, I, or any of my staff would be happy to help you out and chat about the attributes, strengths and shortcomings of any of our tonneau covers. It’s the least we can do to help steer you in the direction of your choice. There are always more than a few factors to consider in getting the irght tonneau for you and your lifestyle. We are experts at tonneau related issues and would welcome your call. We’re there all week from Monday through Friday. I’m usually available after 9am and before 2:30 (pacific).
All the best,
Julian

Hello again Julian,
Since having the new version of the G2 (aluminum version) for quite a while now, i got to say i am liking it very much. The only issue i’ve come across is water dripping in from the side of the rails more so than with the old polymer one. Not that it’s that major living in california but when i wash my car, i hate to get the water drippings puddling up as i keep my golf clubs and tow gear in the bed. I tried reinstalling the rails thinking that maybe i’ve bunched up the weather stripping the first time. but so far the same thing. I have noticed that the new rails have the rubber strip edge compared to my old polymer g2 rails that had weather stripping under the rail where it laid on the bed side. So I was wondering if you could recommend any solution? i was thinking of getting that weather stripping 3m makes for home windows to duplicate how my old rails were. Also another minor thing, i’m not sure others have dealt with, but living in a hot state, opening the cover can get hot. any recommendations on some kind of rubber or heat resistant tape i can put on under the cover to use as grip when opening the cover so i don’t burn my hands? thanks .Again, aside from the minor issues, (as there is no such thing as a perfect tonneau cover) this is as close as it gets and love the cover.
