BakFlip G2
BakFlip G2 is the worlds best selling and most popular hard folding tonneau cover. Its origins began when Julian and Ivan Miamin invented the original BakFlip tonneau cover. The first model was made with sandwich panels made from impact resistant ABS with a honeycomb core. This original BakFlip was brilliant in terms of its concept, but honestly fell a tad short in it's ability to handle the daily beating that a tonneau cover gets from both use and the environment. So, after about 18 months after the original BakFlip was launched, the new BakFlip G2 began being built. The new BakFlip G2 was made to be a seriously strong tonneau cover. The original plastic panles were abandoned in favor of all aluminum panels. The honey comb core was changed to an insulated EPS (polystyrene) that was totally water proof. The hinges were upgraded and the panel frames were beefed up as well. The rails of the BakFlip G2 were wider, stronger and had tough EPDM rubber seals integrated into them. Professional quality injection molded components rounded of the BakFlip G2 as well. The new BakFlip G2 was now a cover built to outlast your truck. BAK Industries never deviated from the original function or design of the BakFlip, we simply put all our knowledge, experience and R&D into building a tonneau cover that now proudly boasts the name BakFlip G2.

The BakFlip G2 was also greatly simplified in terms of installation. The original required the use of multiple tools to install. The BakFlip G2 requires on 1 single wrench to tighten a few clamps and thats it!
BakFlip G2 Specs:
Panels made from 1/2 inch thick EPS and Aluminum with a baked on black finish.
BakFlip G2 Panel texture is a flat line hair cel finish to match existing OE textures.

The BakFlip G2 can handle over 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight. No load of snow will cause the BakFlip G2 to bow whatsoever. It will provide unbelievable security and protection against both thieves and the elements.
Simple clamp on installation insures that the BakFlip G2 goes on quickly, even if you're a first time do-it-yourselfer!

Quick release hand knobs fasten the BakFlip G2 to the truck and allow you to remove the entire cover within seconds!

A patented, state of the art drainage system ensures that your bed remains dry, even in torrential conditions!

Custom, over the top packaging ensures that your BakFlip cover is as well packaged as it is made. No stone is left unturned in the pursuit of quality when it comes to making and shipping you your BakFlip G2 Tonneau Cover.
The size of the average BakFlip G2 box is 68x22x8 (inches)
The weight of an average BakFlip G2 in the box is 55 lbs. It is important to note however, that you are only folding one panel at a time, which means that a maximum of 7 to 10 lbs is lifted per panel. This means that even a small child or woman can operate the BakFlip with ease.
The BakFlip G2 panels latch automatically by way of a patented slam latch system that engages the rails when the BakFlip G2 panels are closed. This means that you never have to walk from one side of the truck to the other to undo or loosen your panels. They simply latch automatically. the incredible latching design allows you to open the panels automatically as well. One pull on the securely position lever (on either side of the truck) will allow you to open the BakFlip panels.

Maintaining the BakFlip G2 is also as easy as can be. Since it's made from heavy duty aluminum and then coated with a UV protected fisnish, all you need to do is treat it exactly as you would treat your truck. Regular washes with soap and water will keep your BakFlip G2 looking fantastic for years and years!
There is also no need to do anything to treat any of the rubber components on the BakFlip G2. They are all corrosion proof and will not fade, crack or deteriorate over time. They can handle 180 degrees below freezing and heat unachievable on planet earth.
The BakFlip G2 also provides intermittent locking capability so that if you drive a fifth wheel hitch or simply want to drive the the cover partially open you can do so.
Best of all, the BakFlip G2 will allow you to drive with your cover fully open, so no matter how you use your truck, you'll always have your bed available. With BakFlip's patented "Now you see it now you don't" technology, you'll never ever need to worry about what to do with your tonneau cover when you need to use your truck like a truck!

What is the impact of using the BakFlip G2 on a Toyota Tunda with the Bed Rails – Will the Tie Downs still work once the BakFlip is installed. It appears tha the installation covers the Rails. Any advice or a movie of BakFlip being installed in a 2007+ Tundra.
March 28th, 2010 - 00:57
BAK Industries has actually developed a special lowering bracket that integrates with the BakFlip rails that attach to a new Toyota Tundra. Basically, you still get to use your rail system with the Tundra BakFlip installed. The install requires no drilling and is really simple to do, even if you’re a first time installer. Just make sure that you add the letter “T” to the back of any Tundra part number. This denotes that your truck has the rail system built into it and the bracket kit will ship automatically with your BakFlip cover. best of all, we provide the kit absolutely free!
All the best,
Julian

Jullian – Thanks for the information. I recieved my G2 Cover today and installed it. However I am having some issues with the rail system. A sugestion to take back to engineering. Perhaps if the Bolts incuded were 3/4″ vs 1″ it would make the rails usable. Once I attached the rails with the mounting hardware the end of the bolts stuck up enough that the cleats on the rail will not slde past any of the bolts. In the picture it shows the bolts flush with the top of the locking nuts. In practice they stick out about a 1/4″. I am sure a trip to the hardware store will fix it – but it could make it better if you did not have to modify what was shipped. Other than that I am impressed so far….

Thanks for that valued feedback. I have already spoken with the folks in production and based on your comments, we have implemented the minor change. This is why I love blogs! There’s nothing quite like “in-the-field” consumer feedback. It allows us to improve on our products all the time. This piece of info really helps and is most valued.
Enjoy your cover! I’m sure your shorter bolt solution will indeed do the trick!
All the bets,
Julian

Leaks, Any solutions for the rear corners where the tail gate closes. the corners have engineered gaps in them. I wouldn’t call this water tight at all. and if you go into a car wash the back corners can get water sprayed thru the openings. You can see the openings on the video as well. Im thinking about sending it back? Any ideas.

will the bakflip g2 work with bushwacker OE style rail covers? I have a 2010 silverado. and was wondering if they will work tougher. thank you.
May 23rd, 2010 - 10:27
Yes, the BakFlip will work with Bushwacker bedcaps, but you’re way better off using BAK ProCaps, because they fit far more accurately than Bushwacker bedcaps. They also have more 3M tape underneath them.

Just had a bakflip G2 installed on my 2010 dodge ram, a dealer installed it. Looks great works great, BUT just had a very rainy day today and it looked like it is leaking, my guess is at the front corners of the bed, right behind the cab, theres a gap there where the rubber seal looks like it falls short….. any support on this, not too happy about this, since it is supposed to be weatherproof, and after all the point of a tonneau cover is to keep the moisture out, is it not??
i am going to talk to the dealer, but i thought dropping a line here for some support first……???
thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
We have tons of insulating seals and solutions to open corners as you describe. Depending on who installed the cover and how it was done, you might be left with small gaps that require insulation. These gaps can result from your truck not having a bedliner to not having bed rail caps to the cover simply being installed too far forward or backwards. In any such event, we certainly have very simple and effective solutions. You can call us at (818) 365-9000 between 8:30 and 4 (pacific) and we’ll send you the insulation seals etc. at no charge.

I have a 2001 Ford F-150 crew cab short bed ( 66\) I would love to buy a Bak Flip cover. Is there anyway that you would have one that fits this truck bed.
I would pay to have one custom fit for my truck.

i have a 2009 dodge ram 1500 stx, quad cab 6.3 bed size. i would love to buy a bak flip cover. however i can’t find the right size that fit my truck. who do i need to talk to to get the right size for my truck or y’all don’t make bak flip for that specific truck. i wouldn’t mind paying extra money to get it customize to fit my truck.

Hi John,
Actually the part number BakFlip that’ll fit your truck perfectly is 26203. You can find the pretty much anywhere online. If you’d prefer to locate a dealer near you that can help you out and also install for you, visit our “locate a dealer” on our website at http://www.bakliner.com

I bought a BakFlip G2 for a 2010 Silverado Extended cab with a 6.5 foot Linexed box. I, too have leakage problems at the cab end in the corners (from either side it looks like). If you would extended the rubber 1/4 on either side it would alleviate much of the problem as it would cover the gaps at the box corners. Same goes for the side rails. Rubber should be a little wider. Also, I ended up bending the lip on the box as the space in the clamps isn’t deep enough to accommodate. That seems to work but I’ll have to wait until it rains to see. Any help with the leakage would be greatly appreciated.
Other than that it was relatively easy to install and does look great.

If someone bought a BAK cover for you, then it would have come with rails. We do not sell covers without rails and neither do our distributors. If you happen to have received one without rails it’s because someone bought it for you used. This means that after we have replaced the rails, you can quite easily demand a new unit under warranty. To circumvent people taking advantage of us, we simply ask that you provide us with the serial number form the box in which your gift came, and we will gladly send you a set of rails to match your cover. If you do not have a serial number or the box in which your gifted cover came, then I am quite sure you’d understand our position. We get hundreds of unscrupulous people trying to get covers for free from us and while I am not suggesting you are one of them, I am saying that we are following protocol to protect the interests of our distributors and the equity and integrity of our brand.
Sincerely,
Julian Maimin – COO

Serial Number?
Just bought a Bakflip HD for my Tundra, Model 35409T. There’s no obvious serial number on the box. The label only has the model number, description and UPC code. Someone has written on the box with felt marker 87495 50…is this serial number?
October 27th, 2010 - 14:35
The BakFlip G2′s serial number is on the white label on either side of the box, right underneath the part number.

Got a new 2010 Silverado. Looks like the mounting mignt interfere with the bed rail caps (the protective plastic cover that runs the length of bed on both sides.)
Does it attach with the rail caps IN PLACE, or do the clamps simply clamp over the cap rails??
January 3rd, 2011 - 14:22
I am waiting for my G2 cover to be shipped (impatiently!! ha!). I have a 2006 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab which came with a plastic drop-in bed liner. should I be able to put the drain tubes in the holes with the tie down anchors? Would I need to remove the liner to see where the tubes should go? (And then reinstall the liner.) I’ve never seen the bed without the liner, since it came with it.
Thanks!! Can’t wait to get it installed!

I received my Bak flip G2 for my 2009 F-150 Super Crew. The drain plug attachments were not attached to the rail. They were loose in the plastic bag that the rails shipped in. When I tried to screw them in to the rail, I discovered that the hole in the plastic was so ragged that the threads on the plug would not catch. So I have no drain system.
Any suggestions?

Today, with my son’s help, I installed the Bak flip G2 on my 2010 Tundra Crew Max in 45 min. With the exception of bumpy rubber seals it fits perfect and looks great. I noticed the posted video on the main page showing how to heat up the seals to get them to lay flat so I hope I can get that accomplished.

does anyone own a nissan frontier with this cover on it and a bed extender also thinking of buying one but not sure if i can use bed extender with it

Hello,
The BakFlip will work perfectly on a Nissan Fontier and will not interfere with the operation or function of the bed extender. You’re good to go.

Hi Julian,
Sorry to be bugging you over accuracy of your specs…but that is kind of what specs are about. Anyway on your G2 page (http://bakflip.com/bakflip/g2.html) it says a 400 lb weight capacity. In the image at the top of this page it says 400lb. Then just below the first video, it says 300 lbs in the text. And in your 2011 catalog on page 13 it says 250 lbs (evenly distributed). I understand continuuous product improvement and maybe that’s what’s going on. But the variety of statements makes it hard to know what to believe and what is reality. Are the G2, HD and F1 all basically the same strength…or are there real differences in their ruggedness? Thanks for addressing these inconsistencies.
March 4th, 2011 - 18:26
Hi there and thanks for the great question. The answer is that any BakFlip cover will handle 400 LBS plus of evenly distributed weight. As our covers evolve they are continuously improved upon. At one time the G2 had a honey comb core and now has an EPS core. At one point the HD had different hinges to the F!, they are now the same. All these sorts of running changes can certainly create some confusion and for this I am honestly sorry. But to put the record straight: The G2 and HD are almost identical covers in composition, however the HD has the newer low profile flush hinge system, refined features like injection molded handle covers, glow in the dark emergency release and a 3lb core. It also has an additional 1 year warranty. Other than that, they look very similar and for all intents and purposes have pretty much the same weight rating. The BakFlip F1 is much more impact resistent. It has all the refinement of the HD, but has a fiberglass reinforced top surface and unlike metal, won’t get as hot and isn’t powder coated or painted. It won’t ding and quite frankly is a real step up in my opinion. It’s rated to handle at least 400 lbs plus. With that said, we still don’t like folks jumping on them. Fold it over and stand on it if you must. Other than that, I think you’ll come to find that all the BakFlip are built to handle any load of snow and are tough as nails!

I just installed a G2 on my 2010 F150 super crew. What an easy installation.
One question is there was a 63″ piece of foam gasket taped to the cover.
What is it for? I dont see anything in the instructions or video. And it is not the rubber pieces for the up position to pad against the window.

Will the drain system work properly if you have a Rhino Spray Bedliner?

Is there a bak flip available for F-150 2002 supercrew (5.5′ bed)? Every time I pull up order options is provides for a supercab (6.5′ bed) for that model year or a supercrew for the 2004 model year.

Hi, I just installed the BakFlip G2 and there is a rubber seal for the front of the box if you do not have a box liner where does it go, on the box or on the cover and where exactly do you position it.

Is there a difference between the BakFlip G2 with cargo management and the BackFlip G2 without cargo management other than the size of the clamps?
August 9th, 2011 - 17:24
Yes, the rails on some applications are different. Also, some apps like the Tundra come with a cargo management rail lowering kit.

Hi , i just installed the G2 tonneau cover and i love it but is there a way to secure down or lock each individual panels when they’re opened?

We have three 2003 Toyota Tundra access cab trucks using Trak Rack sliding rails. There is an inside flange on the rails that can be reversed for improved clearance and both slding racks can be moved to the outside tracks. Will this provide enough clearance to open the G2 panels in the full open position? Do you have examples of the G2 being used on Tundra’s with Trak Rack lumber rack systems?

Hi Gerald,
The BakFlip can be made to work with the Trac Rac. In fact, BAK and Thule are currently working on a bracket kit that will allow you to do just that. For more info, email charly@bakliner.com. He can give you an update on the status of the project and lend valuable advice as to what you can do, given your current position.

I just purchased the G2 for my 2006 Nissan Titan Crew Cab Short Bed. I have a factory bed liner. Do I have to remove the bedliner to find out where the drain tubes go? Also, will I have to drill through my factory bedliner to install the drain tubes?

Will you be fazing out the G2 with the G3?
How much more will the G3 be over the G2?
Seems as that the G3 will be the same as the F1.
I would like to see a special promo for the new G3.
It concerns me only 1 or 2 year warranty.
Give us a date for the G3 please.

The G2 will not be fazed out.
The new BakFlip Endura will be released in the 2nd week of November, 2011. It will have a 3 year warranty.
The new F1 will have serious upgrades and a 4 year warranty for 2012.

Is it possible to get the overall length of part #26101? I am trying to see if this will work with a specialized tailgate I have installed which leaves me about 77.5″ to cover.
Thank you

I believe the cover will work. We generally leave a good 3/4 inch of tolerance between front and back of truck to accommodate for bed liners of various thicknesses.

Does the f1 Bakflip seal well with over the rail sprays like Line-x and Armaguard?

Julian,
You mentioned above that the new F1 will have a 4 year warranty and some upgrades? Any update on the release of the new one? Thanks!
