The 2013 Ram 1500 is quite a pickup truck. The buzz on this new monster of a truck is insane. You need only see this weeks news articles on pickuptrucks.com to note that 7 of its front page articles revolve around the completely redesigned 2013 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup truck. So, when it comes to finding a tonneau cover for the all new RAM, we at BAK Industries perk up like kids in a candy store. Needless to say, as market leaders when it comes to truck bed covers, we usually want to be the first to get our hands on any new truck and start hammering away at a possible new design.

Having taken a thorough look at the new Ram 1500, it’s a little bit of a bitter sweet moment for us. On the one hand, we can say with full confidence that we love this new truck. It’s sleek, aggressive looking and if it’s even close to what the critics are saying, then more than a few of us at BAK Industries will likely be driving one in 2013. On the other hand, we won’t have to produce any special tooling or create any dynamic changes to our tonneau covers, because despite the truck being a complete change for 2013, the truck bed portion will remain identical to the bed that’s on the 2012 models of Rams. We suppose the RamBox version is new enough that they didn’t need to mess with what’s already a pretty cool bed design, especially with integrated Ram Box toolboxes and a pretty functional and practical utility track rail design.

Roll-X Tonneau Cover Update

Yesterday, we received our final rail designs back from our extruders. All of our engineers anxiously convened (hearts in throats) to test the new Roll-X rail design, which I can tell you first hand is nothing short of an engineering marvel.

For those that may not be aware, the Roll-X tonneau cover has gone through a series of testing over the past 6 months as we refine what BAK Industries believes will be the most well received tonneau cover ever launched. So, as people eagerly await the official launch of the Roll-X tonneau, we’ve been continually refining the product – most recently the final rail design.

Well folks, what we saw yesterday is going to BLOW YOU AWAY! If you think you’ve seen a clever tonneau cover before in the BakFlip, wait until you see this new Roll-X design. I am beyond delighted to report that the clever rail-in-rail locking design of the Roll-X actually works! What we were looking at on CAD screens and holding thumbs in the hopes that it would actually work in reality was finally laid to rest yesterday. Just to let you in on what to expect, the Roll-X tonneau rails automatically swivel when the end of the cover meets the tailgate, automatically locking the entire cover from the very front to the very back. Clever is a word that falls way short of describing the brilliance in design. When it comes to slick functionality, the Roll-X stands so far alone ahead of the pack that nothing even comes remotely close. And, what it does for security in a tonneau is something that has never been seen before and is absolutely light years ahead of the competition.

Stand by everyone…………The Roll-X tonneau cover will be released this coming month and I simply cannot wait for all of you to see what I just saw yesterday. All I can say is wow! The respect I have for Ivan at BAK Industries in terms of his engineering genius is beyond belief. Hats off to you Ivan, I am in awe of your ability!

2013 Ford F150 Tonneau Covers

BAK Industries will be building all of Ford Motor Company 2013 Ford F150 hard folding tonneau covers. We are very excited about this new development. The new hard folding tonneau covers will be built for all models of Ford F150 pickup trucks, from the 6.5′ extended cab bed to the popular 5.5′ Ford F15o Super Crew pickup truck.

BAK Industries official built the 2012 Ford F150 tonneau covers for Ford with tremendous success. Based on this success, we have been commissioned to continue producing the Ford tonneau, however for 2013 there will be some improvements. For starters, the aluminum top surface of the OEM BakFlip tonneau will be replaced with a more impact resistant fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) top surface. The connection points will also be concealed for improved aesthetics and all rubber trim will be bumped up to a newly developed scuff resistant EPDM rubber.

While the tonneau cover composition is different, the 2012 models will actually fit the 2013 Trucks. That means that you’ll be able to remove your BakFlip cover on your current Ford F150 and if you buy a 2013 model F150, you can reinstall your original cover on it.

If you get a new 2013 Ford Raptor, you’ll notice that the roof line is actually a bit lower than the regular 2013 Ford F150 truck, so we’ve decreased the size of the folding panels to sit lower than the third brake light when fully opened.

2013 Ford Super Duty tonneau covers will be available from BAK Industries as soon as the truck is released. It is our understanding that the all new Ford Super DUty will have a few bells and whistles not currently available on the 2012 Ford Super Duty pickup truck, such as the trim on the high level platinum package currently available on the Ford F150 truck. That said, these seem to be the only real differences to the body of the truck. The good news is that when it comes to adding a solid tonneau cover to the awesome new 2013 Ford Super Duty, there’ll be some real solid choices available right off the bat. The bed size on the new pickup will remain the same, and for this reason, the entire range of BakFlip tonneau covers, from the impact resistant BakFlip F1 to the all aluminum work horse in the way of the BakFlip G2 will be ready to flip, fold, stack and lock whenever you’re ready to get yourself covered.

Tonneau Cover Alarm

BakFlip tonneau covers will soon be able to be equipped with an awesome new Tonneau Cover Alarm system. BAK Industries has been working on the new alarm system and perfecting it to work with their entire range of BakFlip tonneau covers. The tonneau cover alarm adds an additional layer of security to the already very secure hard tonneau covers made by BAK.

The new Tonneau Cover alarm comes standard with a key fob that easily allows you to arm the alarm. Any kind of tampering or movement of the BakFlip panels sets off an extremely loud decibel sound that’s enough to scare the dickens out of any unsuspecting thief.

Tonneau Cover Security

Recently, one of our customers contacted us telling us how his Chevy Silverado pickup truck was broken into. Unfortunately for him, he ended up losing his Mac computer, along with other electronics and his bag filled with his favorite clothes. Apparently, the thieves that saw his valuables through the window of his truck needed them badly enough to punch out the lock on the drivers side door, and when that failed, reverted to a classic smash and grab, breaking out his rear truck window and making off with his valuables.

What he went on to tell us, was what the thieves didn’t see were his tools, camera equipment and a ton more expensive valuables, because they were hidden underneath his BakFlip tonneau cover. It just goes to show you, that a thief will often times bypass looking under a tonneau cover and elect to smash a window first, because what’s out of sight is all too often out of mind. While the truck cab was locked, the irony of this story was that the tailgate was not. The thief could have easily made off with a better loot, were it not for the truck being covered with the BakFlip truck bed cover.

Tonneau cover security extends beyond just the lock. It’s what you don’t see that counts perhaps just as much.
